Town Awarded $2 Million for Major Park Improvements
The Town of Mount Carmel is pleased to announce a $2 million grant investment for major improvements to Mount Carmel Park.
The funding includes $1.5 million through the Tennessee Local Parks and Recreation Fund (LPRF) and an additional $500,000 through the GO Fund. Together, the two funding sources will provide 100% of the project funding, with no local match required from the Town.
The project will continue the Town’s ongoing efforts to improve and expand recreational opportunities for residents. Planned improvements include:
- Construction of a new public splash pad
- Rehabilitation of the northeast baseball field
- Renovation of the existing basketball court
The improvements are designed to provide recreational opportunities for residents of all ages and represent another significant investment in the long-term revitalization of Mount Carmel Park. The Town’s preliminary plans call for replacing the southwest baseball field with the new splash pad while rehabilitating existing sports facilities.
“This award reflects our continued effort to be strategic and aggressive in pursuing outside funding for Mount Carmel,” said Town Manager Tyler Williams. “By combining these two funding sources, we are able to invest $2 million into our park with no local match required. Maximizing grant opportunities like this allows us to strengthen our community, improve the quality of life for our residents, and accomplish major projects without placing an additional burden on local taxpayers.”
The latest award builds upon several years of improvements at the park. Mount Carmel previously received a 2023 LPRF grant to support restroom improvements, and the Town has since invested in additional amenities including pickleball courts, new swings, playground improvements and public Wi-Fi. The bathroom and pavilion renovation project associated with the 2023 grant is anticipated to be completed later this fall.
The Town appreciates the support of Governor Bill Lee, the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation (TDEC), the Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development (TNECD), and our state partners for making this investment possible.
Additional information regarding design, project timelines and construction will be shared as the project moves forward.
