"The Mount Carmel Board of Mayor and Aldermen passed the second and final draft of the town’s fiscal year 2025-26 budget at their Thursday night meeting.

Mayor John Gibson thanked the City Hall, including Town Administrator Jim Stables and City Recorder Tyler Williams.

“We started this process probably back in February, and we’ve met with them multiple times. I feel like City Hall and Tyler and Jim have done a great great job giving input, keeping us informed along the way,” Gibson said.

Williams went over the planned budget for capital projects, which includes the following:

  • Two police vehicles
  • A firetruck grant
  • Fire chief vehicle
  • Hazard mitigation generators through FEMA
  • Parking lot paving
  • Security systems
  • Updates to public works building and additional equipment
  • Library equipment and building renovations
  • Park grant to renovate restrooms

“As you can see the town is funding $915,000 of that, $830,000 of that is grant money for a total of $1.7 million in capital projects, so that is a significant contribution to our community, I think that is something we should be proud of,” Williams said.
