Town Awarded K-9 Grant to Strengthen Public Safety

The Town of Mount Carmel is proud to announce that its Police Department has been awarded a prestigious grant from the Jireh K-9 Training Academy, aimed at enhancing local law enforcement capabilities through the addition of a trained police K-9 unit.

This grant, part of Jireh K-9’s nationwide Police K-9 Grant Program, provides law enforcement agencies with highly trained working dogs at no cost—an immediate savings of over $9,500 per dog. The program is designed to support departments that face budgetary constraints but have a critical need for K-9 units to assist in narcotics detection, suspect apprehension, and community safety initiatives.

The selected K-9 will undergo specialized training in narcotics detection and handler coordination, with a Mount Carmel officer attending Jireh K-9’s certified handler course to ensure seamless integration into the department.

Jireh K-9’s grant program has helped agencies across the country achieve major drug seizures and improve community policing efforts. Mount Carmel joins a growing list of towns benefiting from this initiative, reaffirming its commitment to proactive law enforcement and public safety.

Residents can expect to see the new K-9 unit in action later this year, participating in patrols, investigations, and community outreach events.
